ARM LIFT

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to reshape the under portion of the upper arm, including the area from the underarm to the elbow. The arm lift is performed to:

* Tighten and smooth the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm
* Reduce excess sagging skin
* Reduce pockets of fat from the upper arm area

Ideal candidates for an arm lift include:

* Adults whose weight is relatively stable and who are not significantly overweight
* Adults with excessive sagging skin in the upper arm area
* Healthy adults who do not have medical conditions that can impact the healing process or increase risk of surgery
* Non-smokers
* Adults that have a positive outlook and realistic expectations

PLANNING YOUR SURGERY

Arm lift surgeries are very individualized procedures. During your initial consultation Dr. Saieh will evaluate your arms and discuss your goals for the surgery. Dr. Saieh will check for medical conditions that could cause problems during or after the surgery, such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, smoking, blood clotting problems, or the tendency to form excessive scars.

Be sure to tell Dr. Saieh if you are smoking or taking any drugs or medications, especially aspirin or other drugs that affect blood clotting. If you decide to have an arm lift, Dr. Saieh will explain the techniques and anesthesia he will use, the type of facility where the surgery will be performed, and the risks and costs involved. Please do not hesitate to ask Dr. Saieh any questions that you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results.

Before surgery you may be asked to:

* Get a lab test or medical evaluation
* Take certain medications or make adjustments to your current medications
* Stop smoking well in advance before surgery

PREPARING FOR YOUR SURGERY

Dr. Saieh will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, to avoid smoking, and taking or avoiding some vitamins and certain medications. You will also be given instructions on post-operaative care and follow-up. Please stop, at least two weeks before surgery, all prescription and non-prescription herbal-like vitamins, diet pills, energizers, stimulants and appetite suppressants either bought in the USA or a foreign country, i.e. Mexico, etc. Bring them to the office and tell Dr. Saieh about them.

Do not take Aspirin or Ibuprofen or any other related anti-inflammatory products for a period of three (3) weeks prior to surgery and four (4) weeks after surgery, because they can cause increased bleeding. To take Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is okay. If you are a smoker, you will be asked to stop smoking well in advance of surgery.
